- Prepare ye the way of the Lord, saith John the Baptist, clothed in camel’s hair & eating locusts & wild honey. I am not worthy. Jesus astonishes with his doctrine, cures a man of his unclean spirit, Simon’s wife’s mother of a fever, others, a leper, & casts out devils. #Mk1
- In Capernaum, Jesus cures by forgiving sins, which the Pharisees find blasphemous. I come not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. Do not fast when the bridegroom is with you, or put new wine in old bottles. The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. #Mk2
- Jesus cures the withered hand of a man on the Sabbath, but the multitude stop the Pharisees from destroying Him. He ordains 12 disciples, & rebukes the scribes who say that He is Satan casting out devils, for a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. #Mk3
- Preaching on the sea of Galilee, Jesus tells the parable of the sower, explaining that the sower sows the word. Let him hear. He that has not—see #Mt13. The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, becoming greater than all herbs. Jesus wakes to calm the waters during a storm. #Mk4
- After crossing the Sea of Galilee, Jesus casts out devils from an unclean spirit, Legion, into a herd of swine that destroy themselves, making the locals unhappy. A woman is cured of an issue of blood by touching Jesus’s garment. Jesus raises a 12 yr-old girl from the dead. #Mk5
- Jesus returns to Nazareth & is doubted. A prophet is not without honor but in his own country. For her dancing, Herod gives Herodias whatever she asks, which is the head of John the Baptist. Jesus provides fish & bread for 5000, walks on water, & calms the sea. #Mk6
- The pharisees & scribes ask why Jesus & his followers do not wash before eating. Jesus says that only that which comes out defiles a man, not that which goes in. Evil comes from within. Jesus casts out a devil from a Greek woman’s daughter, makes deaf hear & dumb speak. #Mk7
- Jesus provides loaves and fishes for 4000, crosses the sea, & gives sight to a blind man. He questions his disciples as to His divinity & predicts His death. Get thee behind me, Satan. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his soul? #Mk8
- Jesus takes Peter, James, & John to a mountain & reveals His divinity. This is my beloved Son. Jesus casts out a devil from a child. The disciples dispute: the first shall be last, the last first. He offers a stern reproach to offenders & offenses: cut it off, pluck it out. #Mk9
- The Pharisees quiz Jesus about divorce, which is allowed, but not remarriage. Keep the commandments and give up wealth to inherit eternal life: with God all things are possible, even for a camel to go thru the eye of a needle. In Jericho, Jesus gives sight to a blind man. #Mk10
- At the Mount of Olives, Jesus asks his disciples to find Him a colt. The multitude cries Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord. A fig tree bearing no fruit withers at Jesus’s command. Angered at the temple moneychangers, Jesus cries My house is a house of prayer, #Mk11 …you have made it a den of thieves. The chief priests and scribes quiz Jesus: By what authority doest thou these things? He replies, answer me first one question: The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? They cannot reply. #Mk11a
- Parable of a vineyard owner sending his workers & son to be killed is told; what shall the Lord of the vineyard do? Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s. Jesus rebukes the Sadducees: He is not the God of the dead but God of the living. The poor widow casts 2 mites. #Mk12
- Jesus at the Mt. of Olives warns of the destruction of the temple, false prophets, things done in His name, dark times, & the abomination of desolation for his followers. The day & hour are unknown. Heaven & Earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. #Mk13
- Jesus is anointed & rebukes his disciples: the poor are with us always. Jesus gives thanks at the Last Supper. Take & eat of my body & blood. After Jesus’s passion at Gethsemane—the flesh is weak—Judas betrays Christ. Jesus is condemned for blasphemy. Peter denies Christ. #Mk14
- Jesus is taken to Pilate, who releases Barabbas in his place. Pilate delivers Jesus to be scourged & crucified. Simon helps Jesus take the cross to Golgotha. Jesus is reviled, spat on, mocked & crucified. He dies after asking why God hath forsaken me, & the temple is rent. #Mk15
- Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James, & Salome take oils to anoint Jesus but find that He has risen. Jesus is seen by His disciples, & upbraids them for their disbelief. He tells them to preach the gospel, cast out devils, & take up serpents, which shall not hurt them. #Mk16
