- A man, his wife Naomi & sons flee Judah for Moab due to famine. The sons marry but they & the man die. Naomi decides to go home. Her daughter-in-law Ruth insists on going too. Where you go I will go, & where you stay I stay. Your people will be my people & your God my God. #Ruth1
- Naomi & Ruth return to Judah. Ruth is permitted to glean the barley fields during harvest by Boaz, brother of Naomi’s dead husband Elimelek. He shows her kindness & instructs his men not to disturb her. Ruth gathers an ephah of barley. Boaz is Naomi’s guardian-redeemer. #Ruth2

- Naomi instructs Ruth to lie down beside Boaz after he dined and was sleeping. She does as told, and tells Boaz when he awakens that she is his servant and he is her guardian-redeemer. Boaz commends her, and sends her back to Naomi with six measures of barley. #Ruth3
- Naomi’s land is to be sold, but Boaz, 2nd-in-line as guardian-redeemer, assembles a council to redeem it. His brother, 1st-in-line, declines when he finds that he must marry Ruth & jeopardize his inheritance. Boaz marries Ruth & begets Obed in the line from Judah to David. #Ruth4
